a fairytale, of sorts

Once upon a time there was a little house on Harding Street in a small city in Central Virginia. In this house lived a family of four; two people, the Lady and the Mister and two cats, Milo and Pinky. Born on April 27, 1997, Milo and Pinky were littermates, brothers if you will. Pinky was white, loved to eat and snuggle with the Lady. Milo was black tiger striped, active and loved to be pet by the Mister.  They were so very different from each other but unified on one goal: Figuring out doorknobs. Married on August 19, 2000, the Lady and the Mister were both creative people. The Lady liked to make things with her hands. Some were artsy and some were tasty. The Mister liked to create things with sound. They welcomed people into their home that also liked to create things. They called these gatherings of the creative “the Beat”. One day the Mister recorded a couple of songs with their creative friends in the basement of the little house on Harding Street in a small city in Central Virginia. While making artwork to go with the new songs, he came up with the name “The Harding Street Assembly Lab” for the basement recording studio. In time, the name came to encompass the creations of both the Lady and the Mister.   As in all of life, the passing of time brings change and 2006 brought many changes for the family in the little house on Harding Street in the small city in Central Virginia. Pinky died in June and Milo has had a hard time adjusting to the loss. It is said they were on the cusp of a break through in their doorknob research. This difficult time was followed by an unexpected move out of the little house on Harding Street in a small city in Central Virginia to a home without a basement, without an Assembly Lab. This story still holds the promise of a happy ending. The Lady and the Mister look with hope and excitement to the future. Masters of making things work, a new rehearsal space has been found for the sounds of the Mister and the kitchen of the new home has been converted into an Assembly Lab for the Lady. Milo has found all sorts of distractions at the new home to keep his mind off the Doorknob Project, particularly The Stairs. Keeping with the spirit of the little house on Harding Street in a small city in Central Virginia and just because we like it, the name The Harding Street Assembly Lab has been kept.
